Windlass

The Windlass is mounted in the bow chain & anchor locker. You can see the White chain pipe plug just under the jibsee. When the chain is attached to the anchor I stuff the hawse pipe hole with a sponge and rags to stop water from getting into the chain locker. If it's really bad or on long passages there is a ring on the bottom of the plug I can attach the chain to and drop it into the locker below) I epoxy painted the forward locker were the chain drops into. When hoisting the anchor we sometimes have to dump over the chain pile as it tends to pile up to the bottom of the hawse pipe. (The green hose is my wash down hose, installed a wash down pump near the head intake pipe) I put the circuit breaker and switch under the nav station where the cables run back to the house bank. Generally run the engine when anchoring so the alternator on the engine takes most of the current load. Worked very well we anchored all over the Caribbean and Bahamas with this arrangement. Hand over hand pulling up the anchor is not much fun especially when you have 100 ft of chain out.
